ST. CHARLES, MO (HOTELS-STL.com), May 25, 2008 - Six years ago, when Ameristar Casinos opened its doors for state-of-the-art gaming experience, St. Charles city officials were enamored with the quality of the operation and the facility.

In June 2007, the red carpet was rolled out for a lavish "topping off" ceremony at the new $265 million luxury Ameristar Casino Resort Spa, adjacent to the casino.

John Boushy, CEO and President of Ameristar Casinos, told guests, "The new hotel and spa will feature best-in-class service and upscale amenities that will create a luxury destination resort experience for our guests in a fun and friendly environment that fully complements our gaming, dining, conference and entertainment options."

On May 22, 2008, Ameristar Casino Resort Spa hosted a Grand Opening party, surpassing expectations once again. Guests and local officials were welcomed into the expansive, two-story hotel lobby, complete with two double-sided fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Missouri River, and contemporary artwork. The special event featured a guided tour of the resort destination and lavish pool party complete with several Sports Illustrated swim suit models from New York.

The custom-designed, indoor-outdoor pool area, complete with fountains, a fire pit, hot tubs and eight private cabanas, each containing a 19-inch television and comfortable outdoor lounge seating, provided the perfect party backdrop for the stylish evening affair.

Guests entering the 7,000-square-foot Ara Spa were immediately surrounded by a relaxed, yet sensuous décor of light blues and greens with beautifully designed glass tile walls, wood and soft lighting. Water cascading down a stone wall into a hydro-pool created a wonderful soothing "oasis" feel. The atmosphere was serene with tantalizing aromas throughout the spa.

In addition to the hydro-experiences of a Vichy Shower, Ara offers five other treatment rooms, one for facial treatments and the other four dedicated to massage therapy. Separate steam rooms, eucalyptus saunas and Swiss showers offer the perfect balance of relaxation and rejuvenation for both men and women.

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Franke enthusiastically described the guest amenities in an interview following a tour of several of the oversized suites and the full-service spa.

"We wanted to become the premiere destination resort in the Midwest. The hotel features 10 King Spa suites and two Presidential suites in addition to 397 standard suites," said Franke.

The understated description 'standard suite' by Ameristar terms actually describes a luxurious, oversized room with a sunken living room in a soothing spectrum of caramel, chocolate, ivory and gold with contemporary dark wood and satin nickel elements. Custom furnishings include full-height leather headboards and dual 37-inch plasma televisions. The guest room also features a five-fixture bathroom with a whirlpool tub, separate glass shower, enhanced lighting over the matching vanities and a LCD television.

The resort complex is like a living city within a city. "In addition to the spa, we have the streetscape with seven different restaurants, a 130,000-square-foot casino with over 3,000 slot machines, 90 table games and a 19-table poker room," stated Franke. "We have a complete destination facility. There's no reason to leave."

Kim Carpenter, director of hotel and catering sales, noted that the complex also includes 22,000 square feet of upscale meeting and reception space. "There so many different venues for group functions. Guests can park their cars and stay for days," said Carpenter. "People are truly amazed at how they can have such a varied experience all under one roof." She stated that guests could also visit the quaint, historic district of St. Charles, just several blocks north of the casino.

Carpenter commented that with gas prices near the $4 a gallon mark, people may be rethinking vacation plans. "Now that there is this affordable luxury right here in their own back yard, we're hoping that people who may have planned to travel to different destinations, are going to stay closer to home and enjoy a great vacation here," Carpenter said.

Franke affirmed that while the casino industry is not immune to the current economic downturn, Ameristar has retaken its market share and continues to grow as the hotel opens more rooms.

"Once people have an opportunity to stay here and be 'Wowed' by it, they want to come back," stated Franke. "It's a part of who and what Ameristar is. You can talk about the build-out of the facility, but it goes deeper than that. The type of products, services and quality experiences we offer go way beyond what our competitors offer," said Franke.
